Prince Rupert Fire Rescue have training and tools to work with on new Autism initiative

As part of their ongoing training programs, the the members of the Prince Rupert Fire/Rescue have recently completed one month of training on how to work with children and adults who have autism.

The crews of the First Avenue Fire Hall gaining awareness and an understanding as to how their arrival on a scene could make for an anxious situation for those in the community who have autism.

Towards the training through the Autism  Canada, the local firefighters are now equipped with Sensory kits which now are in place on all of their frontline fire equipment.

The kits contain such times as noise cancelling headphones and fidget toys to help children relax and work to reducing stressful situations.
