The Independent Investigation Office has opened up a case file towards an incident from late March in Kitimat, with a woman sustaining injuries while being taken into custody.
The advisory posted to the IIO website notes that the Office was informed of the incident took place at 2:35 AM on March 26th in the 1300 block of Tweedsmuir Avenue in Kitimat.
One woman was arrested at the residence, and it is reported she sustained a serious but not life-threatening injury to an extremity while being taken into custody.
The IIO is the provincial agency that investigates incidents that relate to interactions between police and residents of the province that lead to injuries or death.
Towards their work, the IIO is asking any person with relevant information or video footage of the incident to please contact the Witness Line toll-free at 1-855-446-8477 or via the contact form on the iiobc.ca website.
The investigation by the IIO is the second so far of 2023 in the community of Ktimat.
The first from January saw the Investigation subsequently closed with the police actions found to be justified.
