With some highly anticipated industrial growth on the horizon for the Terrace/Kitimat and Skeena region of the Northwest, BC Hydro has announced plans to move forward on their plans to expand on the capacity of the transmission network into the region.
The work will see an increase in the volume of power transmitted over the length of the 450 miles on the 500 kilo-volt transmission lines from Prince George to Terrace.
The advisory of the go ahead for the programs noted on the BC Hydro website in January, with the Hydro company set to host another round of Open Houses on the projects in the Spring.
Once the consultation and planning phases are complete, the actual construction of the new capacity would start in 2028, with a target of 2023 for launch of service.
BC Hydro notes that the Work to expand capacity to Terrace may be just the first of a larger program that could add to the capacity to the North, South and west of the Skeena Valley city.
