Senior Boys Rainmakers to tip off against Brentwood College in Provincials opener Wednesday

The first step towards hopes for another banner for the Charles Hays Gymnasium will take place with a showdown with Brentwood College for the CHSS Senior Boys Rainmakers.

The Maker's learned of their first opponent for Provincials as part of the Sunday Tournament Draw show live streamed from the Langley Events Centre hosted by Chris Kennedy and Christina Brown.

The LEC has been the host venue for the much anticipated Basketball showdown for a number of years now, the popularity of the event and notice of the talent on the court growing each year.

The Rainmakers head into the tournament as the thirteenth seed, their destiny, that of the opening day matchup with number four Brentwood College team from Mill Bay on Vancouver Island.

From the preview of the matchup, host Chris Kennedy noted the storied history of past travels to Provincials for the  Prince Rupert High school.

"Brentwood College ... they've been here lots, you know  finished second last year twelve times at the tournament.  But going up against probably one of the most decorated teams here in this division, it's the Charles Hays, the Rainmakers Northwest champions .

Twenty third time appearing at the tournament, they're looking for championship number five, always a tough team coming out of Prince Rupert."

Kennedy also observed of the challenges for the Rainmakers to get in some competitive basketball in the regular high school season.

"So Prince Rupert, don't get to play a lot of other high school teams, they play a lot of men's league teams during the year. They're always a tough team, well tested when they arrive at the tournament, I'm sure no different this year"

The Rainmakers and Brentwood College hit the court Wednesday at 4:30 PM

Two Victoria area high schools make for the 1-2 punch in the tournament seedings, the rest of the 2A matchups, which feature some familiar names from previous Rainmaker battles can be reviewed below.
