It's the most ambitious project yet for Prince Rupert based CityWest and as they and the Regional District of Strathcona on Vancouver Island prepare to get to work on the SubSea communication link, the project has its own online footprint for British Columbians to check out.
The major infrastructure project will create a fibre optic connection, a good portion of it under the ocean, that will link 154 communities and improve online connectivity for schools, libraries, businesses and residents along the new communication backbone.
The fibre link that will provide Prince Rupert with a second communication backbone, will travel to the west and south of the North Coast.
Stretching across Hecate Strait to Haida Gwaii, as well as south along the Central Coast and then across to Vancouver Island, close to 3,400 kilometres of sub sea fibre optic cable will be used as part of the project which will bring improved and reliable communication options to close to 175,000 British Columbians.
On Thursday, CityWest and Strathcona RD launched "Connected Coast" a website that provides some extensive background to the project and will be the place to go for those looking for upgrades on massive amount of work that is ahead.

Donovan Dias, the Vice President of Sales and Project Management for CityWest views the new online archive as a historical document for the project.
"In the end, we see the website as an historical document that will provide a first-hand perspective on this tremendous undertaking ... We're happy that we can show them the progress of Connected Coast through the website"
The online portal which you can explore here, features a range of sub topics that include details about the project, schedule of work, consultation plans and engagement with First Nation communities.
It also has sections dedicated towards the latest news on the project as well as for Frequently Asked Questions and a Gallery of photos with plans for more that will trace the progress as they connect coastal communities to the fibre optic technology.
