Smolt Festival Number 10 set for Saturday!

We started the week with word of some troubling times for the North Coast fishery, with closures for recreational fishing on the Skeena and Nass systems and the potential for expanded closures for other sectors perhaps to come in June.

So, with all of those headlines to contend with, here's a bit of positive energy for our beleaguered aquatic cohabitants on the North Coast.

The 10th Annual Smolt Fesitval is taking place tomorrow, with two hours of fun for the entire family set for 1 to 3 PM at the Oldfield Creek Fish Hatchery on Wantage Road.

The event sponsored by The Prince Rupert Salmonid Enhancement Society will feature games, crafts educations displays and a Fish Release which will see some of the 6,700 smolts released into the creek and on to their life journey.

You can also grab a bite to eat as part of Saturday's festival, with Mucho Gusto on site to keep participants fuelled up for the big release.

You can follow more notes related to the Smolt Festival from the Facebook page created for the event.
