Exstew River recreation site closed through to May 23rd
The past actions of a few with blatant disregard for good behaviour, have delivered another spring closure for a popular Northwest Recreation Site.
Tuesday the Province of British Columbia advised that they would be closing the Exstew Recreation site as of May 15th, for a nine day period which will include the upcoming May Long Weekend of the 21st.
The Public Notice was posted to the Ministry of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development website on Tuesday, noting that the short term closure is in place to reduce incidents of vandalism at the site located 42 kilometres to the west of Terrace.
Vandalism at Exstew, has become somewhat of a problematic Spring ritual in the Northwest, with past incidents leaving much damage to the recreation site and adjacent wilderness areas to it.
The province has regularly closed the Exstew site in recent years following some very serious incidents a number of years ago, we explored some of the past problems at the site with this item from 2017.
Those with questions or concerns about the closure notice can contact Recreation Officer Bryan Last at 250-638-5100 or by email at Bryan.Last@gov.bc.ca
