Fire Chief for a day Stella Barton, briefing the Fire Crew during a Fire Safety Week event at Lax Keen School (Photo from City of PR) |
Prince Rupert Fire Chief Dave McKenzie had a flex day in October, turning the duties of the city's fire department over to Stella Barton, a six year old from Lax Keen Elementary School who took charge of the daily routine, with a few twists along the way.
A fire truck ride to the Fire Hall and tour of the Department and museum on site made for just a portion of the busy day or the Lax Keen student, who also conducted a fire inspection of the nearby Safeway bakery.
Knowing the importance of good morale, Ms. Barton made sure to return to Lax Keen with a cake for her classmates, that following a luncheon date with the city's fire crew at McDonalds.
Helping out with the day of work for the Fire Chief was Sparky the Safety Dog who took part in the Lax Keen celebrations, which were all part of Fire Safety Week in October.
You can learn more about Stella Barton's big day from the City of Prince Rupert's media release.
