Seniors Housing project near completion in Port Edward

Work on the District of Port Edward's Seniors Housing continues towards the finish line and with the work nearing completion, it's almost time to take applications for the available space

Councillor James Brown from the District has updated the community on the process ahead for would be residents of the facility, noting that Transition Society's Dina Campbell will be at the Port Edward Community Centre on November 8th from 2 until 4:30 to hand out applications.

The location for the eight unit modular home facility is Alder and Oceanview, with Port Edward making quick work last year to clear the way of any zoning changes for the long sought after units.

The desire for an eight unit seniors facility has been a project in the works for a number of years, and was a priority for outgoing Mayor Dave MacDonald.

The pace of the planning picked up momentum in February of 2015 when the Port Edward Housing Action Plan was developed to highlight the need for such a housing development for the District.

The ground for the site was broken on July 31 when MLA Rice and Housing and Municipal Affairs Minister Selina Robinson joined members of Port Edward Council to put some shovels to work at the Port Edward site.
