Mariner's Park is just one of many of the city's parks that are Prince Rupert residents are making their way to as they take in our extended period of sunshine as we head towards Spring |
Whatever we've done to make the Weather Gods happy we need to keep on doing it, for much of over a month now Prince Rupert and the North Coast have been the poster region for a gentle winter.
While our neighbours in the larger communities of the south have had to shovel their driveways and re-learn their winter driving skills, we for the most part have been basking in an extended period of sunshine, and while at times cold, it has been an enjoyable stretch of the kind of weather that you pick up a phone and tell those relatives living in the snow belts of the nation all about.
Such has been the extended length of our sun filled and dry days, that Prince Rupert cars have a rather unaccustomed layer of dust and grime to them these days, something normally thought of as an unlikely occurrence for the month of February and so far, fingers crossed into the start of March.
For teachers at the city's schools it has meant that outdoor exploration has seen a jump for students, while more and more residents have been able take an enjoyable and dry stroll along the growing number of walking trails across the city.
That has been a good thing for the city's two car wash stations in the city, which have seen a bit of a spike in clients who normally rely on the moist Pacific fronts to lend a hand.
The weather has also been a bonus for outdoor enthusiasts in the region, with generally good road conditions to Shames Mountain and Hudson Bay Mountain giving Rupertites cause to navigate their way to the slopes on a number of occasions through the winter months.
Such has been our stretch of fine weather that the February stats page from Environment Canada features 22 days of No Precipitation through February, with only two days suggesting any kind of nasty weather had been part of the cycle.
As March comes in like a Lamb, the basking in the sun will continue as well through this week, with the Environment Canada forecast making note of nothing but sunshine all the way to next week, with the first rumour of precipitation not until sometime Saturday night.
You can review some of our past notes on the weather from our Weather Archive page.
