Prince Rupert's Smolt Festival set for Saturday

The annual Spring ritual of the release of the smolts is taking place at the Oldfield Creek Hatchery this weekend, with the Saturday event hosted by the Prince Rupert Salmonid Enhancement Society.

The event at the Wantage Road facility will feature games, crafts and education displays, all leading up to the main event of the release of the coho salmon smolts into Oldfield Creek.

Saturday's festivities get underway at 1 PM and take place until 3 PM.

The event is a family friendly get together, but organizers ask that you leave your pets at home.

The Society is a volunteer operated organization and relies on the generosity of Prince Rupert area residents to help with its operations.

You  can ask about volunteer opportunities at the Hatchery while taking in Saturday's events.

The Oldfield Creek Hatchery is on Wantage Road, you can access
it from McBride Street at the Lester Centre/Ear Mah Aquatic Centre intersection
