The latest advisory from the Northwest Fire Zone based out of Smithers indicates that there are no current fires of note to report across the region whether they be lighting or human related.
The data for 2020 shows just how low risk the summer has gone compared to previous years, with only 31 fires recorded to date in the Northwest since the start of the year, consuming 51 hectares in that period of time.
The weather systems of summer making a fire fighter's best friend and requiring little work for wildfire responders in this corner of the province.
Still, as we look to squeeze one more weekend out of the summer of 2020, the province is reminding British Columbians to be cautious in the woods and recreational areas of the region.
Anyone planning to spend time outdoors this weekend is encouraged to use caution with any activity that could potentially spark a wildfire. Human-caused fires are completely preventable and can unnecessarily divert firefighting resources from naturally occurring wildfires or fires that are already burning.
