With Earl Mah Aquatic Centre reservations now being taken, City of Prince Rupert Recreation Department takes note of Most Frequently Asked Questions

Registration for those looking to use the Earl Mah Aquatic Centre this fall began on Tuesday, with City residents to get their first dip in the pool next Monday.

As we noted last month the City has announced the reopening of the popular recreation facility in late August, though with a range of COVID related measures in place.

Towards helping residents get a better understanding of the new measures and how it may impact on their plans to take in a swim, the Recreation Department has posted an FAQ item to their Social Media Stream.

Some of the questions explored include the nature of the new protocols in place, how the Change room situation will be handled and what swimmers can expect during their booked period of time in the pool.

One thing that sharp eyed readers have picked up on is that there will be no Swim lessons offered at the pool as the re-opening takes place, though Recreation staff advise that perhaps later on into the fall the return of swim lessons may be added to the program at the Earl Mah Aquatic Centre.

The current registration period is now underway for swim sessions from September 14-19.

The Facebook notice on the reopening can be reviewed here, as well as from their information poster below:

While the Earl Mah Aquatic Centre prepares to open its doors, so far there have been no updates provided by the Recreation Department or Prince Rupert City Council, as to the fate of the Jim Ciccone Complex and the Arena, both of which so far remain closed to the public.

While it's good news for swimmers this month, so far the City
of Prince Rupert has offered no public comment on the plans
for any reopening of the Jim Ciccone Civic Centre complex

The topic of the arena was recently addressed by a young Prince Rupert resident at the August City Council session, though he and those he represented did not receive any guidance as to the city's plans for the Arena at that time.

More notes on items of interest from City Hall can be explored here.
