MLA's Week: March 1-4, 2021

British Columbia's MLA's returned to their duties  this week for the first four days of the Spring session of the legislature.

For the Northwest MLA's the week was once again one of remote participation with all three  regional representatives, Jennifer Rice, Ellis Ross and Nathan Cullen taking part in debate from their home constituencies.

As for more on the week of work from the House, the four days unfolded as follows:

On the week, Ms Rice was mentioned twice in the record for the week in the   Legislature from March 1-4

Monday she outlined some of the government response to COVID over the last year, while Tuesday afternoon she spoke to the proposed changes from the Housing Bill introduced earlier in the week.

The North Coast MLA is also a member of the Following committees:

Ms. Rice serves as the Government's Parliamentary Secretary for Emergency Preparedness

On Tuesday, the MLA spoke to the topic of the proposed Housing Bill, while Thursday Mr. Ross outlined his thoughts on the proposed Firearms Bill

Mr. Ross is currently the BC Liberal's Opposition Critic for Environment and Climate Change Strategy.

For our readers from the Bulkley Valley area, Stikine MLA Nathan Cullen  was mentioned three times in the record for the week in the Legislature from March 1-4

The Stikine MLA made his debut speech of the new session, recounting some themes from his riding and to focus on the newly introduced Housing bill.

Mr. Cullen also spoke on Wednesday to address themes of the Speech from Throne which you can review from Afternoon archives at the 5:50 PM period of the proceedings

Thursday, the MLA spoke to a point of clarification from the debate in the Chamber earlier in the day, noting how one MLA had mistaken him, for fellow Northwest MLA Ellis Ross, with Mr. Cullen attributing the confusion to bald bias. His notes for the record can be reviewed at 4:40 of the Thursday session.

The Stikine MLA is not currently assigned to any Parliamentary committees

Mr. Cullen serves as the Government's Minister of State for Lands and Natural Resource Operations
