For City Hall policy aficionados a helpful few notes from the Yukon on asset management

The term asset management has been noted more than a few times in conversations at past City Council sessions, normally as part of the city's budget presentations, when the City's Chief Financial Officer Corrine Bomben introduces the theme and council members make their commitment to the goals as outlined and share some of their recent reading material on the topic.

For those around City Hall or in the community with an interest on the topic, the Federation of Canadian Municipalities has some recommended reading to dig into.

Highlighting the Work of the Association of Yukon Communities, which provided for a 32 page booklet called the Joy of Governing,  which puts some focus on the themes of asset management for northern communities.

Bev Buckway, former Executive Director of the Association of Yukon Communities and a former councillor and mayor of Whitehorse, a community just a little bit larger than Prince Rupert, provides for the thumbnail sketch of what the document offers.

“The booklet is written in an open, engaging style and avoids bureaucratic language. It draws readers in by telling a story about local governance: why it exists, what elected officials and staff are responsible for, and how they can best meet the needs of community residents.”

The book published in 2018 outlines elements of local government related to asset management and the values that it brings to the community.

A wider overview from the FCM as to what the Yukon's contribution to the knowledge sharing is about can be explored here.
