September has brought news of some job creation for the District of Port Edward, with Mayor Knut Bjorndal's monthly update providing notes on two new business ventures which have launched in the community.
The economic growth comes with two businesses in the District, North Delta Seafoods which has built a new unloading area at the Port Edward Harbour Authority wharf, while a new business, Cold Fish, has commenced operations at the old Grand Hale processing plant, according to Mayor Bjorndal, that means 30 new seasonal jobs for Port Edward.
At the municipal hall, the District is once again looking for a new CAO, with Robert Grodecki departing from his post, after eight months in the Chief Administrator's post. The District has engaged a corporate search firm to conduct the quest for the next CAO, with the Mayor noting that an Interim CAO has been contracted for the work.
The District has also outlined some of the resolutions that they adopted as part of their August Council session.
The next District Council public session is set for September 12th, following that, the District Council and staff, like other municipal and regional governments will be heading off to Vancouver as part of the annual UBCM convention.
