Adverse Weather in Hecate Strait brings Ferry Cancellations for Thursday/Friday

Gale Warnings for Hecate Strait mean Ferry Cancellations for the
North Coast and Haida Gwaii


With Gale Warnings in effect for the Northern half of Hecate Strait, the resulting adverse weather conditions has resulted in Sailing cancellations by BC Ferries for Thursday and Friday.

The Sailing Cancellation was issued by the Ferry Corporation late Thursday morning and covers both the Thursday evening journey from Prince Rupert to Skidegate and the return trip out of Skidegate back to Fairview.


BC Ferries is continuing to monitor the weather conditions and will update their scheduled sailings listings as any changes are required.  You can find more information on Sailing information from the BC Ferry Service Notices page.

The Environment Canada forecast is calling for Winds of 35 to 45 knots through the afternoon shifting to easterly winds of 25 knots by midnight, with the winds diminishing further to 15 knots by Friday evening.
