Highway 16 CLOSED due to rock slide west of Terrace

A rock slide near the Shames Mountain road has CLOSED
Highway 16 between Terrace and Prince Rupert

Highway crews are on the scene of a rock slide west of Terrace for an assessment of the incident  which has closed Highway 16 between Terrace and Prince Rupert.

Few details related to the slide have been released as of yet, with the area of the slide located between Shames Mountain Road and Gagnon Road, the next update on any re-opening of the highway is set for 9:30 AM

Update: Further assessments required, next update on Highway status 10:30 AM

Posts on Facebook provided some of the scope of the incident, as well as a near miss for one motorist who suffered vehicle damage at the time of the rock slide.

10:30 Update -- The Highway was Re-opened to single lane traffic 10 kilometres West of Terrace shortly after 10:30, work continues on clearing the slide in the travel lane still affected.
