AltaGas On Time, On Track towards completion benchmarks
With the storage tank looming large on the Ridley Island waterfront the next big industrial project for the North Coast is making good progress towards its completion date and the entry into service from the Port of Prince Rupert.
The Alta Gas Terminal which put the first shovel into the ground in April of 2017, is expected to reach the finish line sometime in the first quarter of this year, providing Prince Rupert with another footprint in global shipping and making for full and part time job opportunities at the Ridley Island terminal location.
It's anticipated that terminal will go into operational status sometime later this Spring.
Some of the footnotes to the construction phase offer up a glimpse at the scope of the project as it nears the completion stage.
So far the project has used enough concrete to build three, 35 floor high rise towers, provided employment for 600,000 man hours and most importantly of all, has had not one notable safety incident since the company broke ground.
The update on the project comes from a Fall newsletter that also offered up some snapshots of the four major elements of the construction timetable, of tank, plant, rail and jetty infrastructure.
Also available for review is a video that traces the pace of development of the project to this point.
The latest notes on the terminal progress also highlighted the recently completed Operator Training program, a six month instructional period hosted at Coast Community College that now has graduated eleven students who stand ready to join the workforce once hiring begins.
Beyond the classroom instruction at the college, AltaGas also took the students out into the field to one of the Alberta processing locations for some hands on training and an opportunity to learn more about the new career that students were about to embark on.
AltaGas outlined some background on that training program early last year with a video presentation that highlighted the opportunities that the program offered.
