Graham/Atlin areas and remainder of Section Two under Boil Water Notice

after the City issued a Boil Water Notice for the Graham/Atlin area

City officials are going door to door in Section Two this evening, alerting residents of the Graham, Atlin and Second Avenue West area of a just put in place Boil Water Notice.

The Notice which was announced by Mayor Lee Brain shortly after 6:30 PM calls for the Boiling of Water for residents from the 1400 block to 1900 block of 2nd Avenue West, Graham Avenue, Atlin Avenue, Moresby Avenue, Van Arsdol Street, Alpine Drive, and 12th, 13th, 14th, 15th, 16th and 17th streets.

Section Two is the area of concern for the City with low flow issues
suggested as a possible cause for the water woes today

In a Facebook post the Mayor noted that the city's communications team and city crews were taking the message personally to residents, and that the city is working diligently with Northern Health to rectify the situation as soon as possible.

The City believes the issue is related to a low flow situation and that a refresh of the water mains in the area may assist in resolving the situation.

A Boil Water Notice means that residents and water system users should heat the water to a rapid boil for at least 2 to 3 minutes in advance of consumption – including brushing teeth, drinking and cooking. Use of water for bathing and washing clothes is considered safe without boiling. ..

A Civic Advisory with the date of Friday October 4th was posted to the City's Website to go along with the Mayor's Facebook advisory and one posted to the City Facebook page at 6:30 PM.

An advisory was also issued through the City of Prince Rupert Mobile App program at 5:38PM, there is no indication as to why there was the one hour difference between the City App message and the others.

The Last Time that the low flow concerns resulted in a Boil Water Notice for the Graham Avenue area was in  September of 2014

Last December, the entire City of Prince Rupert was under a Boil Water Notice owing to what at the time were concerns over the water supply coming from the City's reservoir at Shawatlans Lake.

That Boil Water notice lasted from December 14th, 2018 to March 18th, 2019, it came to an end after it was determined that the City had been given a false positive on the nature of the water from Shawatlans.
