As the winter season gets closer, area bears it seems are making their way to favoured hibernation locations and over the last few days one in transit has been wandering around the Port Edward area.

Yesterday, the District raised the alert for residents, noting of the bear's roaming of the community, the District advising that the Conservation Officer Service of British Columbia has been notified of the situation.

The District is reminding residents of the need to eliminate any attractants for the bears and to be observant upon leaving their residences.

As well any further sightings should be reported to the Conservation Service through their RAPP line of 1-877-952-7277

The Conservation Officer Service recently reminded British Columbians of their part in protecting wildlife   and some of the do's and don's to keep in mind.

Updates from the District can be reviewed through their Facebook page
