With change ahead at City Hall, City of Prince Rupert commences search for new civic planner

With Rob Buchan set to take over the top staffing position at City Hall in November, the City of Prince Rupert has followed up on their plans to seek out the services of a new Civic Planner.

As we outlined on Friday, Mayor Lee Brain and City Council announced that they had made a decision on the replacement for outgoing City Manager Dr. Robert Long, announcing Friday of the hiring of current contract planner Rob Buchan.

The Vancouver Island resident has been on the Prince Rupert municipal scene since December of 2019, following up on the Mayor's 2030 Vision plan, first as a contract planner dedicated towards the city's launch of its Official Community Plan review.

Then, as time moved forward,  taking on much of the city's planning work following the departure of former City Planner Zeno Krekic.

In the Monday advisory of pending change, the Mayor noted of the plan to seek out a new City Planner and that search began almost immediately with the City Posting the Job opportunity to its website following the hiring of the new City Manager.

The position which is union exempt, requires ten years of experience in local government planning, as well as a graduate degree in planning from an institution recognized by the Canadian Institute of Planners.

The salary is described as competitive and includes a benefits package.

The City's Closing date for applications is November 2nd, the same day that Dr. Buchan takes up his new duties from Dr. Long.

The full scope of what the city is looking for is posted to the City Website, the Posting available for review below:
