Funding for Parent Advisory Councils announced by BC Government

Some of the proceeds from Community Gaming Grants are being distributed today, and for Parent Advisory Councils in the Prince Rupert area, that means grans totalling 13,800 dollars are on the way to three Advisory Councils in the city. 

In total, nearly $11 million in Community Gaming Grants is supporting parent advisory councils (PACs) and district parent advisory councils (DPACs) in the 2021-22 school year. 

Schools in British Columbia receive funding each year through PACs and DPACs for activities that benefit students’ social, cultural and physical health.

As part of today's statement, Minister of Education Jennifer Whiteside, noted as to how the funding is used in support of extracurricular activities across the province.

“Extracurricular activities are so important for students so they can connect with their friends and maintain their physical, social and mental health. Through Community Gaming Grants, PACs and DPACs across the province provide a wide range of extracurricular activities for students, allowing them to build new friendships, develop life skills and share more experiences together.”

The Three Advisory Councils for Prince Rupert include: The SD 52 District Parent Advisory Council ($9,420), as well as the Prince Rupert Middle School PAC ($1,820) and the Roosevelt Park Community School PAC ($2,620).

Port Edward School PAC will receive $4,080  from the funding program

From the rest of the Northwest, the largest amount of funding for this round was delivered to the Terrace region, which saw nine groups gain differing shares of just over $84,000.

Smithers/Telkwa will gain $41,520 for five groups 

Kitimat will see three groups take differing shares of $28,420
