Kitimat, Smithers dominate Local COVID data report for Christmas week review with 99 of 148 NW cases

Local Health Authority COVID review by region 
for December 19-25


While we adjust to the arrival of Omicron and a renewed provincial approach towards measures and increase vaccination levels, the last seven days have seen another spike in data on COVID case counts for two communities in the northwest.

Smithers vaulted from 4 cases  to 55 in the space of one week, while Kitimat has climbed once again in COVID reports and now has 44 cases recorded from the week of December 19-25

Terrace which was the leader for most of the last number of months saw continued improvement declining to just 10 cases for the reporting week.

Prince Rupert increased slightly to  8 cases recorded for the week.

The data review did not breakdown the totals between the newest variant of Omicron and any other variants of the COVID-19 coronavirus.

The full review across the region for the week of December 19-25  from the BC CDC looks as follows:

Smithers -- 55 cases
Kitimat --

Terrace -- 
10 cases
Upper Skeena --  10 cases
Prince Rupert -- 8 cases
Snow Country-Stikine- Telegraph Creek --  3 cases

 2 cases

Haida Gwaii -- 1 case
Central Coast -- N/A
Nisga'a Region -- N/A

Wednesday's provincial report lists  99 new cases of COVID for Northern Health,  with 431 Active cases

For the Northern Health Region in total as of Wednesday, 17 patients are listed as in hospital with 6 noted as in Critical Care.
