Oversized Load departing Prince Rupert to make for Highway delays/closures through to December 13th

The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure is providing notice of some Highway advisories related to the transit of an oversized load for Highways 16, 97 and 27.

With 9 PM tonight listed as the Departure time out of Prince Rupert for a convoy of large commercial vehicles to begin the first leg of their trip to Terrace, with an arrival time of 6AM.

The Advisory notes that the oversize cargo may require a full closure on some sections of the highway with other areas facing intermittent closure or delays.

The rest of the journey ahead looks  as follows.

Highway 16 from Terrace to Topley on Friday, Dec. 10, from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Highway 16 from Topley to Prince George on Saturday, Dec. 11, from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Highway 16 from Prince George to Highway 97 at Bear Lake Sunday, Dec. 12, from midnight to 5 a.m.

Highway 97 from Bear Lake to Highway 29 just north of Chetwynd at Jackfish Lake Road, Monday, Dec. 13, from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.

The route in place would seem to suggest that the transit will be another of the generating turbine pieces for the Site C Dam project in the Northeast.

The transits of previous components have taken place through this past year.

Some background on the process of moving the giant item from Prince Rupert to the Peace region can be explored from our item of January this year.

In late November, a Fort St. John News website reported that the last of the four turbines had arrived in Prince Rupert and would be transported east within months.

The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure advises that the schedule is subject to a number of factors including weather and road conditions.

They advise that if you are travelling the highway during the transit times that you follow the Drive BC  resources for updates.

That online resource has posted an advisory to the Highway 16 portion this afternoon.
