Civic Centre scheduling puts ANBT Christmas Classic on the sidelines for 2021

The calendar has worked against the plans for organizers of the annual ANBT Christmas Classic, a tourney that serves as kind of an aperitif ahead of the full coursebanquet of February hoops that comes from the main event of the All Native Basketball Tournament.

This year, the schedule of days closed for the Civic Centre complex which run through from December 24 to 28 has provided for no room to work with for the tournament organizers.

Officials from the ANBT had not been aware of the plans for the extensive shutdown of Civic Facilities prior to Friday nor had they confirmed availability, so the shutdown plans apparently caught they by surprise.

The Tournament Officials relayed the news that the tourney for 2021 was not going to take place through the Social Media stream on Friday.

Had it gone forward, the Holiday Hoops would have been the first ANBT event since 2020, with the 2021 tournament cancelled this year owing to COVID.

The focus now turns back to the main event for February and indications from their Social Media stream indicate that there is some strong interest in participation for the 2022 event, with ANBT officials noting that they may have to adjust the tournament dates to reflect some of the incoming requests for a place in the tourney.

This year, the pre tournament qualification games were cancelled, with Tourney officials instead offering direct invitations for the ANBT event.

Updates on the tournament as they move along can be followed from the ANBT Facebook page.
