They're only a couple of weeks into the 2021-22 High School Basketball season and already the Charles Hays Rainmakers have been able to measure their roster for this year against competition, having travelled to Terrace last weekend for a tournament at Caledonia.
This week, the compass points south as the Senior Rainmakers travel to North Vancouver and what has become an annual tip off in the No Regrets Tournament, one of the top tier tournaments to launch the basketball season in the Lower Mainland.
The tournament this year brings together a collection of Vancouver area teams along with those from Vancouver island; with the Rupertites the only team on the Boys side of the event from outside of that corner of the province.
The Rainmakers head into action today having slipped a few notches in the weekly High School Basketball Rankings, a subtle shift from 5th to 8th place in the Top Ten Provincially on the week.
That comes following some mixed success at the Caledonia Tournament with the Rainmakers topping Kelly Road by a score of 87 to 39, but edge out by Smithers with the Bulkley Valley team coming out on top with a 51-49 victory.
The early season tune-up providing some valuable game action for the coaching staff to review as they made their plans for this weekend in North Vancouver.
Providing all the travel arrangements went smoothly, the Senior Rainmakers take to the court in Game One this afternoon with a 3:30 ice breaker with Argyle Secondary.
Tournament play continues on Friday and Saturday.
The 2020 edition of the tournament was cancelled owing to COVID, in 2019 the Rainmakers had an impressive run at No Regrets, coming up just short of Tourney champs Handsworth in the tourney final, the latter a top rated AAAA competitor.
The Rainmakers play at the AA level in High school competition.
