Coast Guard response continues in Haida Gwaii waters to tour boat sinking from weekend

The Canadian Coast Guard has provided some details into an incident in Carpenter Bay, Haida Gwaii which saw the tour boat MV Island Bay sink in area waters on Saturday.

Working with the Council of the Haida Nation, the Coast Guard vessel Atlantic Raven is on station as are members of West Coast Marine Response Corporation. 

Their advisory from this afternoon,  notes that they are working to protect sensitive areas  as identified by the Council of the Haida Nation and Gwaii Haanas, in the event of a pollution release. 

As part of that work, containment and sorbent boom has been deployed around the vessel. 

The owner of the MV Island Bay is engaged with the incident management team and is making plans for the vessel to be salvaged.

Carpenter Bay is at the southern end of Moresby Island.
