Prince Rupert makes for the first stop for BC Spirit Bear cruise for National Geographic vessel Venture

Zodiacs from the National Geographic vessel Venture
were ferrying passengers to and from Prince Rupert
as the cruise passengers enjoyed their first day in British Columbia

The second of three port calls this week by National Geographic tour passengers came ashore this afternoon. As those set to explore Prince Rupert were ferried across in zodiac boats to and from the vessel Venture to the Cow Bay waterfront, the transit coming from an anchorage just off the Cow Bay Dock.

The Prince Rupert stop a sun splashed beginning of a journey that had its start in Ketchikan on Monday, passengers flying into the neighbouring city to the north to start the adventure.

While in Prince Rupert, some of the passengers from the Venture have been exploring the North Pacific Cannery Historical Site as well as the Museum of Northern BC.

Others have been taking a nature walk along the Butze Rapids trail, as well as to check out what the Rushbrook area has to offer, from the waterfront area, the trail and on to the Salt Marsh at Seal Cove.

From Prince Rupert they'll be heading off for a few days of exploration and viewing of Spirit Bears and other elements of the region all part of an eight day tour that will end with charter flight back to the US from the Digby Island airport.

The Spirit Bear tour is a new one for the National Geographic schedule and a look at the itinerary offers up a glimpse of what has the visitors excited about the journey ahead.

The experience for passengers on the Venture is quite an intimate one with only 100 spaces on the journey and a crew of 35 for them to call on along with a number of exciting and informative onboard activities to take in.

The Venture has three more port calls for Prince Rupert before the month ends on September 19, 20 and 26th.
