Tour de North hits the road with morning departure as Prince Rupert contingent joins all tour members today from Dawson Creek

After many months of training and fundraising the participants in the 2022 Tour de North put their legs into the first push off for a seven day marathon ride that takes them from Dawson Creek to Williams Lake,

As we've followed through the summer, there are four Prince Rupert area riders taking part as the contingent from the North Coast.

The Prince Rupert contingent that is riding along on the journey on Highway 97 South includes two RCMP members Constables Nathan Hokozano and Jacque van Wyngaardt along with two members of the Prince Rupert CBSA post with officers Kelsey Sonnel and Glen Kirkland

The total to date for the four riders and team from Prince Rupert comes to $14,734.65

The larger group of riders collectively have set a goal of 150,000, and as of the launch of today's tour they are 72 percent towards that mark, with $108,219.93 raised to date.

You can donate to the rider or team of your choice from this link to the Tour De North Donation page.

The launch of the Tour de North received a shout out from the Premier today, who hailed the efforts and spirit of community of all those involved as they prepared for the first of the seven days ahead.

You can track the progress of the riders through the week to the finish line on the 20th through the Tour de North Facebook page and twitter feed, or through the twitter stream of #TourdeNorth

The Tour de North is one of four other similar events in the province this fall, the Northern route one which takes participants on a travel of over 800 kilometres with terrain ranging from the mountainous to valley floors.

The communities where the tour will visit as they travel Highway 95 include the following:
