Online Forum on Autism Assessments coming this Saturday

If your family is waiting for an autism assessment, an online workshop set for this Saturday will help out with a better understanding of what the assessment process is and what you may expect from it.

The Zoom presentation takes place Saturday, September 17th at 9:30AM and registration is required for participation in it.

Some of the elements of what will be discussed were outlined in a social media update last week.

Further information related to the program can be reviewed here.

A local contact for more background is available at sgrattan@autism.bc

Autism supports in the community made for a short portion of the recent Health Care Forum in Prince Rupert, though the topic did fade from the discussion as the evening moved forward.

(You can review that discussion from the link above at the one hour thirty minute mark)

As part of the discussion during the August forum, one participant did note of the efforts of the Friendship House and other resources in the community that are available for advocacy work and assistance for families on the North Coast.

Recent changes to how the province has approached Autism programs in British Columbia have made for a significant amount of controversy and a more expansive explanation from provincial officials would go a long way towards reassuring parents and guardians as to their options, as well as to what assistance is available to them.

More notes on the themes can be found from our Education archive and that of the Legislature.
