Health care concerns an early focus for Councillor Cunningham at UBCM

The first, and so far only dispatch of the Prince Rupert delegation at UBCM has been sent out, with Councillor Barry Cunningham providing some notes on some of his activities at the annual gathering of Municipal officials taking place this week at the Resort community of Whistler.

Mr. Cunningham. outlined some of his recent conversation on the state of health care in the community, noting through his social media stream of a meeting that he described as positive with Colleen Nice the Norther Health Board  Chair and Cathy Ulrich the President and CEO of Northern Health.

The Councillor notes he also has plans to raise the topic of ambulance care in the region, the Port Tax concerns, themes of reconciliation, as well as regional development.

Mr. Cunningham did not make mention of the Tuesday session on Health Care with Health Minister Adrian Dix and a large panel of participants, a that session the focus was one of re-envisioning health care in the province.

Reviews from the Afternoon get together however, seem to indicate that the delegates came away disappointed from the session and expressed frustration that the Minister did not address some of their many concerns.

A sample of the coverage of that key element of the week for UBCM can be reviewed below:

To this point the Prince Rupert Councillor is the only one of the council collective to make note of his attendance at UBCM.

The City has yet to outline how large a delegation that it has sent to Whistler for the week of meetings, workshops and social activities. The convention which opened on Monday,  will wrap up on Friday.
