It's been almost a year since a TV reporter with TV7 was based out of the Atlin Terminal offices in Prince Rupert |
When it comes to story telling, CFTK TV is a little out of step with current themes in Prince Rupert, or at least the visuals of the place.
The Terrace based television station hasn't really been following up much in the way of news from the North Coast of late.
The foray's west of Kitsumkalum's gas bar to Prince Rupert few and far between, with little reporting of late on local issues, particularly those of City Council or the work of MLA Jennifer Rice in Victoria.
A story on housing last week caught our eye, the Television version one which seems to have been inspired by a previous item from the weekly paper on the challenges of finding affordable rental accommodations in town.
The visuals from the story, suggesting that perhaps the TV 7 team should make a quick trip westward to fill up their B roll (video that serves as backdrop to stories) with something a little more contemporary.
Among the screen shots of note from their housing story, a still boarded up Dairy Queen site (which was excavated months ago) and some heavy duty digging in front of the Post Office (long since finished).
Some dated vignettes from a recent CFTK TV report on housing in Prince Rupert |
That video was likely compiled by the last reporter to actually be based in Prince Rupert almost a year ago.
Eddie Huband was the last of the parade of reporters that have stopped in at the Atlin Terminal office to share a few reports on Prince Rupert themes before heading off to larger markets.
Since then, the Bell Media regional news venture has been basically a two man show, based out of Terrace and for the most part focused mainly on stories of note for that community.
The occasional and rare Rupert shout out, normally is an in studio project, with the aging B roll footage saving as the visual backgrounder.
Should they want to upgrade the video for future Prince Rupert stories, they best hurry, winter's coming and road conditions could see a reporter stranded the North coast for a few days, though at least Prince Rupert might get a few additional shout outs that way.
