Port Edward looks to hire grant writer to pursue funding opportunities

With a range of funding opportunities from federal and provincial programs available every quarter, the need to prepare a solid application has never been more important for municipalities as they seek to address a range of issues that require more capital than they may have on hand.

From infrastructure to social programs and much more, the pot of money is limited and only those communities that have a strong case and can deliver some of the required municipal funding move forward in the process.

To help get Port Edward a share of that funding, the District recently advertised for a Grant Writing Coordinator, seeking a candidate with the experience and knowledge that is specific towards following the grant application process.

The competition came to an end on Friday afternoon, with the District now to review the applications received to decide on the best candidate to help move forward their quest for additional funding opportunities.

In addition to the funding that is made available directly through the Federal and provincial government, Port Edward, like all communities in the province can also explore funding opportunities through such agencies as the Union of British Columbia Municipalities and the Northern Development Initiative Trust to name a few.

The most recent high profile grant funding that has been received on the North coast was that of the City of Prince Rupert's water supply program which is currently in phase two, with the City of Prince Rupert making plans to access funding for phase three in the year ahead.
