5.4 mg quake reported off West coast of Vancouver Island

A 5.4 mg quake was recorded Sunday off the west coast of
Vancouver Island parallel to Nootka Sound at mid island


Sunday morning got underway with a jolt along the fault line off Vancouver Island with a 5.4 magnitude earthquake recorded at 8:20, located 235 kilometres Southwest of Port Hardy.

The quake, which had a depth of 11 kilometres, was one of a series that have been recorded in the area and did not generate any Tsunami concerns.



It does not appear to have been felt in any of the communities along the west side of Vancouver Island.


Update: Two smaller aftershocks have been recorded since the 5.4 quake, a 4.8 rumble at 9:50AM and 4.2 quake at 10:15AM
