Another departure for the NDP caucus of Jagmeet Singh, as Fin Donnelly the BC MP who has been a strong advocate for fisheries announces his decision not to contest the next election expected in 2019.
A long time fixture on the Vancouver political scene, the MP reflected on his time in Parliament and on Coquitlam council before that and noted how it was time to step aside and spend more time with his family.
Donnelly the MP for Port Moody-Coquitlam has spoken out frequently on issues related to the North Coast Fishery and has been to the region frequently to seek action on the concerns from workers by the Liberal government.
In recent years, both Donnelly and Nathan Cullen have championed the need for adjacency for the fishery on the West Coast to bring the concerns of British Columbia fishermen to the same level of note as those of the East coast.
His time in office was celebrated by the Skeena-Bulkley Valley MP who shouted out his props through his twitter feed yesterday.
Mr. Singh also saluted the nine years of service that Mr. Donnelly has given to the party and his riding, highlighting his dedication towards coastal communities.
The departure by Donnelly from federal politics follows a number of other similar decisions from current NDP MP's in recent months.
An exodus that is starting to raise a few eyebrows from political observers and seems to exacerbate the struggles for the NDP leader to gain some traction not only with his own party, but with the voting public across the nation.
