Rainmakers on Vancouver's North Shore for No Regrets tourney

The first major test for Ryan Bishop's collection of CHSS Rainmakers takes place this week as the Senior Boys take part in the high profile "No Regrets" Tournament, a sixteen team event hosted by the Quinn Keast Foundation in North Vancouver.

The trip south for the second week of December has become a regular thing in recent years, taking the Rainmakers to a high level of basketball action from an event which annually attracts teams from across British Columbia, Western Canada and this year Sydney, Australia.

The latter clearly ready to wrestle the title of team which travelled the greatest distance to the tournament from the Northern and eastern visitors for 2018.

The tournament is held in memory of the late Quinn Keast, a longtime fixture of the basketball scene in the Lower mainland and in recent years has seen members of the Rainmakers gain acclaim through their offensive output on the court.

During last years tournament Liam McChesney and Kai Leighton were recognized for their total points of the 2017 tournament,  in 2015 it was another McChesney who was among the top scorers, with former Rainmaker and current UVic Viking Justin McChesney hailed for his work.

From the tournament spotlight, players from outside of the Vancouver area gain a wider level of profile, something which serves them and the Rainmaker program well through the season.

The trip to the North shore is one of three long distance treks ahead for the 2018-19 Senior Boy's schedule, not including the one journey that they hope to be making in March when the Provincials take place in Langley

The Senior Boys open up the No Regrets on Thursday afternoon with a 3:45 PM match up against Seycove Secondary at the Collingwood Secondary gymnasium.

A win sends them to the Winners side of the tournament bracket and 6:30 game on Friday evening.

Should Seycove prevail in the tourney opener, the Rainmakers would move over to the consolation round and a 9:30 game Friday evening.
