Both pucks and Teddy Bears found their mark on Saturday evening as the Prince Rupert Rampage returned to the ice in CIHL action, their first skate against competition following a two week break.
There was little rust to show from the home side as they jumped out to a three goal lead over the visiting Kitimat Ice Demons holding the three goal margin as they headed to the dressing room following period one.
The opening frame provided for the first indication of a big night for the Rampage's Kory Movold who opened the scoring at 6:29 of the period on an unassisted goal, his marker was followed by Tyler Ostrom's goal at 15:41 with assists going to Marcus Atchison and Judd Repole.
Jean Luc Fournier found the range in the last minute of play, with assists from Cody Cringan and Jared Meers.
Movold was quick out of the gate in the second period, with his second goal of the game another unassisted affair at the eighteen second mark, making for a four goal lead which seemed to serve as a wake up call for the visiting Kitimat squad.
The Ice Demons made an attempt to carve into the four goal lead through the second picking up a pair of goals by the midway point, cutting the Rupert lead in half by the time the second intermission came around.
Period three however saw the Rampage quash the Kitimat insurrection, with Kory Movold picking up his hat trick marker at the fourteen second point, with Michael Lynch and Jared Meers getting the helpers.
Judd Repole and Jared Meers would go on to score unassisted goals by the fifteen minute mark to make the final score 7-2 Rampage.
Despite the score, the game was fairly close, with the Ice Demons getting in 22 shots on the night, though they proved to be of little concern for Rampage goaltender Keano Wilson who turned aside 20 of those directed his way on the night.
Kitimat's Nick Almeida took the loss for the Ice Demons facing 29 Rampage shots on the evening.
The game was a relatively calm affair, with only four penalties through the sixty minutes all of them minors assessed to the Rampage.
The win vaulted the Rampage back into the chase for first place overall in the CIHL, with Prince Rupert just two points behind league leading Williams Lake, both teams have played ten games so far his season.
The goal and an assist for Judd Repole helped to keep his grip on third place in the scoring race, with the member of the Ramapge now just five points off the pace of Williams Lake's Zazh Sternburg.
Prince Rupert is back in action this Friday night with a trip to Kitimat, Saturday the Rampage take on the River Kings at the Terrace Ice Arena.
