Details of financial remuneration for elected officials of First Nations communities have been the thing of headlines in the weekly newspaper the last few weeks. That as a number of the First Nations of the Northwest recently began providing their contribution to the Federal Government's First Nations Financial Transparency Act website database.
However, beyond the raw data of the remuneration and expenses for Councils and Community Leaders submitted by each First Nation to this point, the Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada website also offers up a larger overview of information from each of those communities.
Among some of the features of the comprehensive website are community profiles, including such things as a breakdown on population information and other statistical review that might be of interest not only to those living in those communities, but for their neighbours as well.
In addition to the financial remuneration for officials, the information provided also includes background on the electoral system in the community, the Geographic reach of the land and a review of Census information from each community.
As well as the most recent Financial statements from those Communities that have delivered the accountants review, the website also provides a look a some of the Federal Funding that each community has received in recent years.
Below, we'll provide the links to each of those communities in the North Coast, Northwest and Haida Gwaii, featuring both the Financial reviews and the Community profile for each.
As well, we will provide links from our North Coast Review archive pages for those communities which we have past news items on.
The scope of the information from the Federal Government website also might be of some help in providing more background to those archive pages, so we will add those links to our archives as well.
