Prince Rupert's Justin McChesney is going to have a lot more basketball to play this winter and spring and not all of it will be in the colours of the Rainmakers.

The Charles Hays student who currently holds a spot with the Rainmakers squad, can add another note to his B Ball resume, as Basketball BC has announced his name as one of twelve members of the Provincial Under 17 squad.

McChesney is the only representative of the Northwest on the team and only one of two from Northern British Columbia to join the provincial squad.

He joins a roster of players from the Basketball hotbeds of Vancouver and the Fraser Valley, with some of the names perhaps a bit familiar from recent battles in Vancouver tournaments and last years Provincial run at Langley.

The Under 17 Program from Basketball BC provides enhanced coaching, high level competition and ongoing player evaluation.

Offering up  the opportunity to showcase basketball skills to a wider audience, a valuable process for any potential University athlete, more on the Under 17 program can be found here.

You can review the full Under 17 team roster here, while updates on the path ahead for the Under 17 provincial team will be available through the year from the Basketball BC website, Facebook page or twitter feed.

For now, McChesney will be focusing his attention to this weekend, when the Rainmakers host Queen Charlotte Secondary for a weekend series at the Charles Hays Gymnasium.

Action gets underway on Friday evening, with the weekend series wrapping up on Saturday.
