Operational issues causing weekend problems for VIA Rail

Passenger rail service between Jasper and Prince Rupert has been a thing of delays and cancellations over the last 24 hours, as VIA Rail deals with what it is describing as operational issues.

Yesterday, the Prince George Citizen outlined some issues that the Jasper to Prince George segment for the VIA  service was facing, with the Train between those two communities cancelled for Friday and Saturday.

Tonight, the Terrace Standard was first to relay word that the VIA train destined for Prince Rupert had been delayed by seven hours, making for its anticipated arrival on the North Coast to be sometime in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The usual time of departure out of Prince George is 8 AM with the normal time of arrival at the Fairview Station on the west side of the city at 8:25 PM.

VIA Rail is apparently notifying those customers that have reservations about these issues, though no information regarding the delays and cancellations appear to have been posted to their website, Facebook page or twitter feed.

Should anyone wish to change or cancel their date of travel they can contact VIA at 1-888-VIA RAIL  (842-7245)
