Local Minor Softball association to make presentation on local field availability tonight at council

The local organization that has brought back minor softball to the community will be appearing at Prince Rupert City Council tonight, providing Council members with an update on their growing support in the community and to make inquiries about the use of Doug Kerr Field for their league once the Softball season arrives.

The Prince Rupert Minor Softball Association was formed in 2015 and since then has found an enthusiastic group of youngsters eager to take to the field to learn the fundamentals of the sport and take part in the spring season.

The local softball organization has primarily been using the Roosevelt field for it's operations, the Prince Rupert Minor Baseball Association is also a growing sports option for the city's youth and they currently make use of the Port Edward field for their operations.

The need to travel to Port Edward, making for an indication as to the scarcity of sports fields for youngsters in the community at this time.

Last week, the Mayor noted on his Facebook page that as part of the upcoming City's 2018 Capital Budget, the Doug Kerr Ball field will be refurbished to return it to use as a ball field, in recent years the ball diamond had been turned into an unofficial dog park by pet owners in the community.

Heading into their third season, you can learn more about the Prince Rupert Minor Softball league from their website and Facebook page.
