The Four candidates seeking the nomination for the NDP in the upcoming
Federal election were in Smithers on the weekend for the latest  of a string
of debates to introduce themselves to the NDP membership

The four candidates for the NDP nomination for the Skeena-Bulkley Valley seat in the upcoming federal election have been on a tour of the Northwest over the last few weeks, taking part in community info sessions and  a string of debates to give members of the NDP an idea as to what they have to offer as they seek to take over the reins of the party in the region from incumbent Nathan Cullen.

With Mr. Cullen indicating earlier this year that he would not be contesting the next election, the field quickly grew to four participants who this week travelled to Terrace. Smithers and Hazelton to continue their debate tour, streaming the Smithers event live on Saturday through the Bulkley-Skeena NDP Facebook page.

The four declared candidates for the nomination include Taylor Bacharach, Greg Brown, Anita McPhee and Amanda Ramsey, some of the topics covered in Smithers were the issue of climate change and the impact that it has had on the Northwest particularly in the realm of forest fire concerns the contenders also discussed topics related to Indigenous rights, LNG and resource development, Clean energy and Health care to name a few.

You can review the various talking points and discussion themes from the Saturday event here.
