Blog Watching: Week ending November 3, 2019

The season of haunting leads off the review this week, as the North Coast made the most of Halloween over the last seven days with a number of activities for young and old alike.

After a hot start for the CIHL's Prince Rupert Rampage, the team now cools its heels for thirty days, as the schedule maker leaves the Rhinos on the sidelines for most of November.

The City is looking to re-brand how we present our civic image to the world; with a call for bids now underway to develop a new civic logo and other initiatives towards branding the community.

The hot economy in Terrace and Kitimat has employers scrambling to find workers and that means more opportunities for Prince Rupert residents, with some of the job options on display this week at a jobs fair.

And the NDP government's work towards reconciliation and bringing the United Nations Declaration of the Rights of Indigenous Peoples into government policy and law is getting a look over in the legislature, with both of the MLA's for the Northwest making their views known on the theme this past week.

However, the top item of the last seven days found us daring to learn more about the haunting of the Nisga'a Hall, all in the aid of a good cause.

Head Start on Haunting comes Wednesday night at the Nisga'a Hall -- The fourth year for the  Haunted House themes of the Gitmaxmak'ay Youth Group did not disappoint, as residents of the region took in the thrills and chills of the Nisga'a hall Haunted house.  The Wednesday night haunting making for a great lead in for Halloween Night at the Civic Centre.  The Day also brought out some of the creative spirit at offices around the city.  (posted  October  29 , 2019)

That article was followed by:

Jordan Weir sets the pace for Rampage with key win over Smithers prior to one month hiatus -- A quirk in the CIHL schedule now has the Prince Rupert Rampage away from the action until the end of the month, something which made last Saturday's road trip to Smithers that much more of a must win game than usual.   (posted  October  28, 2019)

City of Prince Rupert seek bids for branding project for new Community brand Identity including Civic logo -- We've had Rebuild Rupert,  Redesign Rupert and now perhaps ReBrand Rupert, with the City putting out a call for bids for applicants to develop a new corporate logo for the city and  new brand to support the city's new community outreach plans.    (posted October 29, 2019)

Civic Centre Job Fair set to take place Tuesday in Prince Rupert to help fill Kitimat job openings -- With the economic scene heating up significantly in the Kitimat-Terrace corridor, Rio Tinto Alcan and other industrial works in that region are expanding their search for qualified workers for their terminals and facilities.     (posted October 28, 2019)

MLA Rice joins the discussion on UNDRIP declaration plans -- Two very different presentations took place in the Legislature this week, with both Northwest MLA's in the line up of speakers on the theme of the governments plans towards UNDRIP.  North Coast MLA Jennifer Rice offered her strong endorsement of the plan on Thursday. Ms. Rice's presentation to the House followed by one day an extensive overview from Skeena MLA Ellis Ross who spoke to the NDP legislation on Wednesday.  More on the work of both MLA's can be found from our MLA's Week archive page.  (posted  November 1, 2019)
