BCMEA to join in on trail building in Prince Rupert/Port Edward area

One of the many views from the Rushbrook Trail one of a
number of local Trail projects that the
Kaien Island Trail Enhancement and Recreation Society
has partnered on in recent years around Prince Rupert

Those who are building and maintaining the Trail system in the Prince Rupert area, have a bit more cash to put towards their remediation efforts, with the British Columbia Maritime Employers Association providing 3,000 dollars  to the efforts around the region.

The umbrella organization for provincial employers on the BC waterfront announced their contribution today, which is going towards the work of the Kaien Island Trail Enhancement and Recreation Society with Mike Leonard, President & CEO of the BC Maritime Employers Association noting of their much acclaimed efforts in the community.

“We recognize the importance of accessible, trail-based recreation to residents of Prince Rupert and Port Edward. Through the hard work of the Kaien Trails Society and its partner agencies, routes like the Rushbrook Trail have been restored and have become extremely popular. Day in and day out, we support BC trade and labour, but we also know how important it is to invest in the communities where our waterfront workforce lives.”

The Kaien Trail Society is a volunteer-run organization that is led by a local board of directors. In addition to trail planning and development, it engages third-party contractors for regular trail maintenance like debris removal, brushing, and infrastructure upgrades.

Sean Carlson from Kaien Trails hailed the support and what it means for trail enhanceent in the Prince Rupert and Port Edward area.

"The support of the BC Maritime Employers Association means that trails like Rushbrook will get the ongoing maintenance they need, when they need then. We recognize that safe trail access is an integral part of a healthy lifestyle. Sometimes Prince Rupert’s extreme climate deals us challenges to their accessibility, but the BCMEA is helping us move mountains."

The BCMEA members with operations in the Prince Rupert region include DP World, Pinnacle Renewable Energy Inc, Western Stevedoring, Empire Grain Stevedoring and Tidal Transport and Trading.
