The members of Prince Rupert City Council will continue on with their shift back to a Zoom conference over the public gatherings at City Hall tonight; something which will also impact on this evening's Public hearing, which likewise is now an online gathering as opposed to the public one of August at the Lester Centre.
The notification of the change to remote Council activity coming by way of the City Council Agenda page on the civic website.
Tonight's focus mostly will be on what Council will decide when it comes to the rezoning required to move forward on plans to build a sixty unit apartment complex just off of 11th Avenue East at Edward Avenue.
Council will resume the suspended Public Hearing from August on the topic, with the session tonight shifting to the Zoom online format owing to the return of COVID protocols at City Hall.
Later in the evening as part of their Regular Council Session, the city's council members will return to the topic for a decision on whether to provide Third Reading required towards the zoning change.
There are only two other items on the Agenda for the night, a request for a Development Variance Permit for a property on Prince Rupert Boulevard and a request for support from the Prince Rupert Amateur Swim Club related to the provincial COVID recovery funding.
Tonight's Public Hearing, which takes place by way of Zoom participation and the council session can viewed by way of the Live Feed from the City website, or on Cable Television from CityWest Cable Channel 10/310.
Council will also host a Special Session at 5PM, the meeting closed to public for the reasons cited below:
(c) labour relations or other employee relations;
(i) the receipt of advice that is subject to solicitor-client privilege, including communication necessary for that purpose; and,
(k) negotiations and related discussions respecting the proposed provision of a municipal service that are at the preliminary stages and that, in the view of the council, could reasonably be expected to harm the interests of the municipality if they were held in public.
Council members can take advantage of the period to offer up any items or concerns that they have for consideration on the night.

Report from iPlan -- City of Prince Rupert Zoning Bylaw No. 3475, 2021 -- Council will review the report from their Contract planners and the comments from the Pubic Hearing related to the 11th Avenue housing proposal. Following the discussion they will decide whether to give third reading to the Bylaw required for development
