Tonight's focus mostly will be on what Council will decide when it comes to the rezoning required to move forward on plans to build a sixty unit apartment complex just off of 11th Avenue East at Edward Avenue.

Council will resume the suspended Public Hearing from August on the topic, with the session tonight shifting to the Zoom online format owing to the return of COVID protocols at City Hall.

Later in the evening as part of their Regular Council Session, the city's council members will return to the topic for a decision on whether to provide Third Reading required towards the zoning change.

There are only two other items on the Agenda for the night, a request for a Development Variance Permit for a property on Prince Rupert Boulevard and a request for support from the Prince Rupert Amateur Swim Club related to the provincial COVID recovery funding.

Tonight's Public Hearing, which takes place by way of Zoom participation and the council session can viewed by way of the Live Feed from the City website, or on Cable Television from CityWest Cable Channel 10/310.

Council will also host a Special Session at 5PM, the meeting closed to public for the reasons cited below:

(a) personal information about an identifiable individual who holds or is being considered for a position as an officer, employee or agent of the municipality or another position appointed by the municipality;

(c) labour relations or other employee relations;

(i) the receipt of advice that is subject to solicitor-client privilege, including communication necessary for that purpose; and,

(k) negotiations and related discussions respecting the proposed provision of a municipal service that are at the preliminary stages and that, in the view of the council, could reasonably be expected to harm the interests of the municipality if they were held in public.
