Prince Rupert's CityWest is close to sharing news of their involvement in upgraded service for the community of Lax Kw'alaams (image from CityWest) |
The 2021 Lax Kw'alaams Annual Report provided us with the first hint of the next significant announcement to come from the City of Prince Rupert owned telecommunication company CityWest, with a fairly extensive review of what's ahead in communication services for the community in the months ahead.
City West has been working with the Lax Kw'alaams Band Council over the last number of months towards what will be a new partnership between the two organizations.
From the Annual Report notes, CityWest will be introducing advanced fibre optic technology to the doors of Lax Kw'alaams residents, linking the community up with the Connected Coast project.
For the community the partnership arrangement will mean that CityWest will operate the network, but the infrastructure of it will be owned by Lax Kw'alaams.
As well, CityWest will be looking to hire qualified residents of Lax Kw'alaams to help with installation and trouble shooting as the project moves forward.
For Lax Kw'alaams the new future for communication service delivery will mean the creation of a new company to manage the local network, with a share of the profits from the company to be reinvested into the Lax Kw'alaams community
Towards their community involvement, Lax Kw'alaams notes that CityWest will be setting up a bursary program any community members who have been admitted into post Secondary education in the field of technology.
