CFTK TV bids another farewell, as long serving reporter and news anchor Kathy Brookes retires

Kathy Brookes put the wrap on a lengthy media career
on TV7 in mid October, her retirement announced by
Bell Media North on Friday

There's a definite changing of the guard at the news desk in Terrace, as CFTK once again bids farewell to a long serving member of their news team, this time, wishing the best to Kathy Brookes who has retired from her post after over three decades years of news gathering in the Northwest.

Ms. Brookes who was a familiar face in the Prince Rupert area in the mid eighties, covered a range of local stories from the North Coast before taking up duties in Terrace and subsequently moving to the anchor desk.

From that post night after night, she brought the stories of the northwest to a loyal audience, a cavalcade of events both serious and light through the years that made her a household name for many in the region.

The journalist was also well known through labour circles around the Northwest for her efforts with local media union organizing and representation during the eighties and beyond.

During her time with TV 7 she has seen a parade of ownership and new management come and go through  the offices of the Northwest Broadcaster now owned by Bell Media North.

Her final news shift was October 15th.

She follows former radio news host John Crawford to the days of extended leisure, Mr. Crawford recently took his leave from the CFTK studios in Terrace for the second time, after returning for a short period of the summer to help with some of the transition from old to new.

Little did we know when we put together this piece in mid October that the timeline of change would be so short.

Ms. Brookes has been succeeded on the TV 7 anchor desk by Brandon Cassidy, who recently joined the TV7 staff and introduced  the highlight reel and tributes from local officials for her work last week.
