Indoor Mask wearing mandate in British Columbia continues with no fixed deadline

It had been a much anticipated relaxation of COVID related health measures, but with the level of COVID still at concerning levels, and particularly in the Northern Health Region, the Province's Public Health Officer Doctor Bonnie Henry has announced an extension to the requirements of face mask wearing for the foreseeable future.

The announcement came Friday, two days before the original order was set to expire on October 31st.

“The requirement to wear masks in indoor public spaces is being extended during this time of higher transmission of COVID-19 in communities. This important layer of protection will help make all of us safer, along with practising hand hygiene regularly, staying away if sick and, most importantly, getting fully vaccinated.” -- Dr. Bonnie Henry,

Last week's data release from the BC CDC highlighted the continued state of rising COVID infection across the Northern Health region, including a spike in local numbers in Prince Rupert from the week of October 17-23.

You can refresh your memory as to where Face masks are required from Friday's information statement.
