Cannery Road Race brings North Coast running season to an end

It's Cannery Road Race time in
Port Edward
The final appointment on the North Coast Running calendar takes place this weekend as the Rupert Runners Club hosts the annual North Pacific Cannery Road Race.

Organizers are bringing the popular race back after they took a one year break in 2015, with volunteer fatigue having made that decision necessary last year.

Things appear to be back on track for the 2016 event and the run that attracts both the serious runner and families looking for a fun day out is almost ready to take to the Port Edward roadway.

The wrap on the running season takes place on Saturday along the road that leads from Port Edward into the North Pacific Cannery Historical Site.

It's one of the more scenic routes for local runners around,  making use of the mountainside and channel to provide the backdrop to the event.

For those that will be heading out to Port Edward for the day, there are a number of options available for participants for this years run.

A 10 kilometre walk and 1/2 marathon which starts at 11 AM.

The 1 kilometre Kids Fun Race which starts at 11:30 AM.

5 kilometre and 10 Kilometre Runs and the 5 kilometre walk with participants leaving the start line at Noon hour.

The day also features a BBQ which starts at 1 PM, along with the presentation of wards and the draw for prizes those festivities begin at 1 PM.

Pre Race Package Pickup and Late Registration is taking place at Cowpuccino's Coffee House on
Friday evening from 7-9 PM, while Day of the Race registration will be available at North Pacific Cannery Site from to 10-10:30 AM Saturday.

Race Fees for the weekend include the Adult rate of 30 dollars, for those 60 and over the rate is 25 dollars. Participants that are 19 and under can register for 15 dollars while the Kids Run is Free.

Members of the Rupert Runners receive a five dollar discount from the day's running fees.
